Authors notes: This is actually based (albeit loosely) on something that happened today...
“Okay, goodbye, baby. I love you.” He put the phone down and Alex stared at him, smiling softly. It was all an act. Alex knew deep down inside he was crying out to want something more than friendship with Michael because that’s what he needed. What they both wanted.
“So, how long has it been now?”
“Nine months,” he sighed, happily. Nine months of pain, Alex thought. Nine months of trying to get over Michael when he officially said he was unobtainable. “Yesterday actually.”
“What did you...? I mean, did you do anything special?” Michael nodded, smiling.
“When I got in, there was a candlelit bath waiting for me, then he cooked me dinner. It was so special. Then we went up to bed, cuddled and watched some movies. I say we watched movies, watched the beginning of one and then fell asleep – in his arms.” Nodding and ‘aww’ing, Alex tried to force that smile back on his face.
“You two are... So cute together. Really.”
Alex had known Michael for a year or thereabouts and from the moment he handed him that coffee and initiated that friendship, he had loved him.
They had never shared intimate moments. Cuddled, but nothing. They both expressed an interest in each other and Michael shot Alex down. ‘You’re more like my friend,’; ‘I’m not ready for a relationship.’ Alex had accepted that, but it was hard to move on.
“Alex, what do you think of him?” he stared at the picture on his phone. “He’s alright, why?” Michael was giddy. “Because, I’m thinking of asking him out.” Alex’s heart had never felt so heavy.
He had dated other guys, tried to rid himself of the feelings through then but he somehow couldn’t. They were still there. No matter how many times he found some random guy in a bar and took him home or the one time that he had had a serious relationship, he just couldn’t do it. He still loved Michael.
Staring at Michael’s face, he saw the affection he once saw from him. Alex knew that it was that friendly affection that he was seeing on his face and he knew his face was full of love and an aching heart.
Michael moved closer, Alex’s breath hitched as he closed the space between them. Alex was intoxicated by his scent and he couldn’t help but stare at his lips. Michael then chose that moment to lick his lips and Alex couldn’t resist, he moved forward and quickly pressed his lips against Michael’s.
Moving away, almost instantaneously, the shock filled his face and eyes and he was nearly crying. “I... I’m sorry. You have Jason, I know this. I know... You two. I’m sorry.” Michael didn’t say anything; he just pressed the button to the elevator. When the door pinged, he pulled Alex in by his arm. He didn’t want to mention the burning sensation and the fizz of electricity that shot through him when Michael touched him. He pressed the button to the ground floor and pushed Alex against the elevator wall.
Pushing his lips against Alex’s roughly, they kissed passionately. Michael rutted against Alex as the lift descended, he pulled away from him as the doors opened.
“That’s all you wanted, wasn’t it?” He asked questioningly.
“No.” Alex said sadly. When Michael went to touch his arm he flinched away. “Go away, Michael. Forget this. Forget... Everything, okay? I... I never wanted that.” Alex stormed off in the opposite direction to where he needed to be.
Michael watched him, somewhat smug, somewhat sad. There was no way in hell he was over Alex. He knew when he started dating Jason that the feelings were still there and he couldn’t replace them and he knew he wouldn’t ever. But they couldn’t be together.
He was happy with Jason, though when he told Alex about it, he was always filled with sadness because he knew it must hurt for Alex to hear it.
Sighing, he realised he had lost his friend and part of his heart in the younger boy walking away from him.
He needed to get it back, but he knew he wouldn’t be trusted again...
